Media Release:

Networks In Motion to Offer Refund for Downloads of Gokivo™ iPhone™ App

Free Song Offered to iPhone Users Who Purchased 99 cent App on June 17 or 18

Aliso Viejo, CA., June 19, 2009

Networks In Motion (NIM), the creator of Gokivo and the award-winning global wireless navigation, hyper-local search and location-based services (LBS) company, today announced that it will provide a free song from the iTunes store to any iPhone users that downloaded the Gokivo application from the store that were confused by the In App purchasing system that went live the same day that Apple released its 3.0 OS. This offer applies to users that downloaded the 99 cent app on June 17 and 18, 2009, and believed that full navigation was included. The pricing language was clarified in the app store on June 18.

Apple’s new In App purchasing is only allowed in paid applications, thus to sell a subscription service, like navigation, developers must charge for the base application. It cannot be free. Free applications must remain free, with no exceptions.

The 99 cent version of Gokivo offered in the Apple iTunes store provides access to hyper-local search powered by Yahoo!® Local, and integrates with other applications on the phone. However, voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic are available only via In App purchase offered at a monthly subscription of $9.99. This does not automatically renew every month.

“It appears that some iPhone users were confused by the new In App purchase model and we could have done a better job making it clear that navigation is only offered in the monthly subscription,” said Steve Andler, VP of Marketing at Networks in Motion. “We would like to offer a ‘refund by song’ to any users who felt confused by this new pricing model, or disappointed with their purchase.”

Due to limitations with refunding users cash in iTunes, people seeking a refund will receive one iTunes song. Users who downloaded the Gokivo app on June 17 or 18, 2009 can receive the free song by following these simple instructions:

  • Send an electronic receipt or invoice for the purchase of the Gokivo application to iphonesupport@gokivo.com (invoice must show purchase date of June 17 or 18, 2009).
  • Include the email address you want the iTunes gift sent to.
  • Don’t forget to include your song of choice in the email, or we’ll pick it for you (Hint: I’m Sorry, by Brenda Lee).
