Press Release:
Networks In Motion Launches AtlasBook Navigator™ at Mobile World Congress 2008
Barcelona, Spain. Feb. 11, 2008
Mobile World Congress 2008, Barcelona, Spain, Stand # 1G45 Hall 1- Networks In Motion (NIM), the award-winning wireless navigation and location-based services (LBS) company with offices in Sweden, Barcelona and the U.S., today announced AtlasBook Navigator™, a software platform available to wireless carriers for mobile phone navigation, local search and other LBS applications. AtlasBook Navigator will be shown in the NAVTEQ stand # 1G45, hall 1 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Feb. 11-14, 2008.
AtlasBook Navigator features maps, local directories and turn-by-turn directions with voice guidance that transforms the mobile phone into a personalized travel guide. New features in AtlasBook Navigator include a movie feed with movie locations and times, event information, weather forecast from Intellicast and 3D 'perspective view' maps.
AtlasBook Navigator also includes NAVTEQ Discover CitiesT, a bundle of pedestrian-relevant points of interest (POI) data built specifically for location-aware mobile devices. NAVTEQ Discover Cities provides mobile consumers with information about the sights and amenities of the city around them, including mass transit information and tourist attractions.
Navigators powered by Networks In Motion are currently available to customers at major wireless carriers in North America who purchase a GPS-enabled mobile phone and download the navigation software, which is commonly branded by the carrier. NIM has the largest mobile phone navigation subscriber base in North America, surpassing two million paid users, and will be providing mobile phone navigation and group finder services through Nordisk Mobiltelefon AB (NMT), a mobile communications operator licensed in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland and Ireland.
"We foresee European consumers quickly adopting innovative mobile phone applications like AtlasBook Navigator, that include features like pedestrian mode, as they have in North America, which made Networks In Motion an LBS leader," said Christopher Kingdon, managing director, EMEA, Networks In Motion AB. "Mobile phone navigation is newer to the European market and there are tremendous opportunities for it to become as popular as personal navigation devices, once more GPS-enabled handsets become available and once it is promoted as a useful tool for both drivers and pedestrians."
